Doctor Brian Miller Talks about TMJ and Teeth Grinding
One of the things we can do for chronic jaw pain is to make an occlusal appliance. Basically, it’s a night guard and it separates the teeth and muscles so you can kind of have a jaw that relaxes into the correct position. More complicated cases we do refer out, but the nice thing about the treatment that we do, it’s an appliance that’s reversible. So if I put something in, I introduce something to correct your TMJ, and it doesn’t work or makes it worse, we can remove it. And that’s usually the first line of defense. From that point, we can make our diagnosis and then send you to referral, refer to a specialist if needed.
